Scenes from Limassol, Cyprus

After my short time in Nicosia, I was back on the southern coast, this time in Limassol. Limassol is a much bigger city than Larnaca, so I immediately liked it better. I didn’t get to explore too much, but I did see the castle. My main objective for my time there was to visit the Kourion ruins, a little ways out of town.

Limassol Castle

After finding my hotel, I went in search of the Limassol Castle. It wasn’t too exciting from the outside, but it was better than the one in Larnaca. It’s worth going in and looking around the museum if you’re there, and the views of the city and the sea are pretty nice from the top. Entry was 4.50 euros.

Kourion ruins

The next day I explored the ruins of Kourion. To get there, make your way to the Old Hospital bus station, which is north of the coast and the castle. The bus to the ruins is number 16, but verify this in case it changes. Your best bet is to get a map and a bus schedule from the tourism information office at the Limassol marina.

The bus tickets were 1.50 euros each direction, and the last stop on the route is the one for the ruins. After the bus lets you off, walk up the hill until you get to the entrance. Entry was 4.50 euros. It’s also worth noting that there isn’t much else in this area, so eat lunch before you go or bring food with you. And keep that bus schedule handy so you know when the bus goes back.

These ruins were one of my favorite sights in Cyprus. It was a big place to explore with lots to look at, signs to explain the history, and beautiful views of the rocky coast. It was hot up there though, so take sunscreen and a hat.

Where I stayed in Limassol

I stayed in Limassol for two nights, which was long enough to explore the ruins and see the castle, but if you want to do that plus have a little beach time, consider adding a third night. I stayed at City Centre Studios, a hotel that was really a studio apartment just a couple minutes from the beach. It was 135 euros for 2 nights, so 67.50 per night.

It was a nice place with a mini fridge; perfect for keeping a few drinks cold and having something for breakfast, but no ability to cook anything. The man who owned it was really helpful when I arrived. The only downfall was the street noise since it’s so close to the main road, so if you’re a light sleeper, this might not be the place for you.
