Almost two years ago, shortly before I left for my round the world trip, I needed more pages added to my passport. My choices were Frankfurt or Bern, both about two hours from Freiburg by train. Due to the appointment times and train schedules, going to Bern meant having to wake up really early instead of hideously early, so Bern won. Despite being the capital of Switzerland, it’s a fairly small city. I spent a few hours wandering around the historic center when I was done with my passport appointment, and one of the odd things I came across was this giant chess set. I passed it twice, and the second time people were actually out there playing a game.
